The Obscure Book of Romans

A couple of days ago I heard Barrack Hussein Obama say that he is opposed to gay marriage, but he is for civil unions, and that gays should not be “discriminated against”.  He felt people should consider the Sermon on the Mount, and not some “obscure passage” in Romans. I had to think about it for a couple of days, before I could blog on this absurdity. If you want to know if someone is a true dyed in the wool Christian, the best litmus test is how that person views the Word of God. Liberals always betray themselves because they pick and choose which parts of the Bible they believe are genuine words of God. So, those people who are of the tree hugger persuasion pick verses that deal with “tending the garden”, those who are into ridding the planet of poverty, look for verses that tell us to “feed the poor”, those who want us to accept gay marriage, and gay rights, look for the “love thy neighbor” passages. But for the true Christian, every dotted ‘I’ and every crossed ‘T’ from cover to cover is the Word of God.

Now as to the obscure passage in Romans, I think Mr. Barrack Hussein Obama is talking about the first chapter of the book of Romans; the opening shot across the bow of sin delivered by God through the pen of Paul the Apostle, which is not only a direct hit against homosexuality, but states it to be a judgment call because they rejected God. Now the last time I checked the Apostle Paul wrote two thirds of the New Testament; how the first chapter of Romans becomes obscure escapes me.  The lesson for the right; don’t buy the lie of the left that they are evangelicals; it is only a ploy to get our vote.

Did Evangelicals Abandon the GOP?

Today’s Washington Post had a very interesting article titled “Democrats Win Bigger Share of Religious Vote” (Parties Disagree on Why The Gap Has Narrowed), I found this to be a very interesting article written by a person who definitely does not understand what an Evangelical Christian is. Most people have heard about the poll taken regarding the spiritual state of the country. You hear this poll cited on cable networks all the time. It‘s conclusion is that 85% of all Americans profess to be Christians, but when you get down to the nitty gritty only about 7% of those people are true Evangelicals. George Barna of the Barna Group states "...evangelicals remain just 7% of the adult population. That number has not changed since the Barna Group began measuring the size of the evangelical public in 1994....less than one out of five born again adults (18%) meet the evangelical criteria. “(N = 1003; margin of error = ±3.2%). So, the question is who did abandon true Christian values and go over to the dark side.

Wisdom will understand that the heart of every man at its root is rotten; Genesis 6:5 states the following (Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually) So we see that there are no good people as much as we would like to believe there are. John Calvin said it this way. “If we look upon the world we see some given to covetousness and some to pillage and extortion, and not only the little thieves that are whipped and hanged (today we put them in jail); we see even such as are robbers , I say not in woods and forest, but in houses, in markets and in places of justice. We see that there is neither faith nor loyalty among most men, but that all men are given to pillaging and thieving, without respect for any equity or uprightness. We see some debauched by whoredom and infamy, others in drunkenness, and other kinds of evil and loose behavior. We see men rap out oaths, perjuries, and other cursed things. We see secret compacts, poisonings, spiting’, malice’s, treasons, and wicked practices” Excerpt from John Calvin’s Sermons on Ephesians

We look on our culture as basically good, we American are arrogant because rather that strive to be truly godly people who bring light to the world, we are like blind men who look in the mirror and walk away proclaiming our beauty. We do this by accomplishing what we call acts of kindness like giving aid to poorer countries, by attempting to overcome diseases that are the worst possible sicknesses, we overthrow despots who are cruel task masters in foreign nations and attempt to bring freedom across the globe. On the surface all of these are good acts, but does it cause us to be blind to our poor spiritual state, because we pat ourselves on the back and feel that is enough to prove our goodness; in the meantime we are debauched, decadent, and tolerant of all forms of evil. We give in to the temptation to commend and flatter ourselves because of our feigned virtues.

So, did evangelicals truly go over to the dark side, or are they people who fall into the ranks of those described above; the four out of five in the Barna study.

I happen to be a dogmatic thinker and dogmatically conclude that birds of a feather do flock together. So if religious people voted with the Dems in this election, were they not showing their true affiliations? Yes, there were the Mark Foley’s, Cunningham’s, and Abramoff’s, in the GOP, and yes there was the cronyisms, the nepotism, and many other isms. But that is not the stated platform of the GOP. So the house has hopefully been cleaned, albeit the timing was very bad since the time to clean ones political house is in the primaries, none the less, the house has been cleaned. But this cleaning not only removed the elected wolves in sheep’s clothing, but also the uncommitted, those tossed about by every wind of doctrine, like a leaf tossed about on a roiling sea. So the conservative movement may be somewhat smaller but hopefully on firm footing. Now we can begin to build again and on a solid foundation. In the meantime, the asylum is in the hands of the insane.

Screwtape & Company

What I am about to say will probably not make some people happy. Looking at the blowout on election night caused me to look back over the past couple of years and try and understand what went wrong. I read a book by C.S. Lewis a while back called "The Screwtape Letters" If you've not read it I think you should. I think the demons won a round in yesterdays elections. Paul the Apostle stated in Ephesians that "Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places". So how did they pull this off?

Well let's start with Social Security. The President went on an all out campaign to restructure and update this lumbering giant. What happened in my opinion was the first big blow by screwtape and his buddies. The Democrats came out in unison against this move, (because they are against anything that benefits the nation, they only want to look like they are for the people, when what they are all about is personal power). The problem blossomed when the conservative talk show host decided that they should set the President's agenda and joined ranks with the democrats in criticizing the SS remake, and the elected Republicans in congress bought the lie that the president was a "lame duck" and they did nothing to support the President's agenda. A house divided...... Screwtape and his buddies high fived each other over that victory.

Next came Harriet Meyer, what a shameful cacophony of arrogance the political hacks in conservative punditry displayed, Laura Ingraham decided she should choose the next Supreme Court Justice and went on a blowout campaign to destroy poor Harriet, as did Bill Bennet, Also in the line up were the pundits on Special Report with Brit Hume, I am sure there were others, those are the ones who come to mind. The whole ordeal put a bad taste in my mouth. In the meantime Screwtape and company along with the Democrats rejoiced and the average John Q Citizen looked on or joined in, and the President was beginning to believe he was a lame duck, so he caved and threw Harriet to the wolves. I don't know that Mrs Meyer would have been a good candidate but I do know is that she should have been given the chance to bomb on her own. As for her replacement I am not at all impressed that Roberts and Alito are conservatives after viewing some of the decisions that have come out of the Supreme Court since they were confirmed. The next firey darts thrown by Screw & Company was the Dubai Ports deal. I got so tired of hearing pundits say that they did not want this deal to take place, I kept screaming at my radio it's not about what you want, you're not the President you don't get to choose. But they did get to choose, because with enough pressure the President caved again and canceled the deal, when I think he should have stood his ground and investigated further. I began to lose respect for the President rapidly. Now the talking heads might have been right about Dubai, but they mishandled the whole thing because for the third time in less than a year they came out publicly swinging at the President. Rather than try to persuade him privately they aired their dirty laundry in view of everyone, including the Democrats who were look for another log to help build the very house they now occupy.

O yes, Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. The Dems first wanted more troops, then withdraw all troops, then the President had no strategy, then a poor strategy so change course, oh yes let us not foget kill Rummy, (and along came the pundits again helping the Dems, Bill Kristol at the helm) well today they succeeded in ousting a very able man, the Dems started accusing the president of being incompetent and it began to appear true. It never ceases to amaze me how skillfully the whole demise of the Republican party was orchestrated. The American public bought the lies the Democrats told, along with the help of conservative pundits and turncoats like John McCain who so loves the camera, and his elected brethren who were more concerned about being reelected than they were about governing. And, the arrogance of the talk show host like Laura Ingraham and Hugh Hewitt, who boasted that the Democrats could not win elections, hmmmm guess again. Scripture says when your enemy is being punished by God for his wickedness, do not gloat lest the Lord relent and remove the punishment, I believe we just witnessed that. Now we have Democrats in charge of everything in the legislative branch, O Lord have mercy. The cess pool we were living in has become an ocean of refuse. The left has won the culture war and we are at the mercy of the world forces of darkness, the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

I have noticed since the election that the very talking heads who helped orchestrate this downfall see only that everyone but themselves are at fault. The blind leading the blind; both will fall in a ditch.

As for the President, I think he lost sight of his relationship with God, and power went to his head. He seems to have forgotten that it is God who wins battles, not the might of weapons or human strategy. So we have not won this war and will not unless we humble ourselves and remember who goes before us into battle. Unfortunately I fear it will be said of the President that he did evil in the sight of the Lord and did not walk humbly with his God. I had hoped that during his second term he would lead the nation back to a right relationship with God, and God would have exalted him and the nation. Instead it seems he exalted himself and in doing so reduced himself and the nation before God. Our God is merciful, holy and loving, and says of himself that He exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness in the earth. And wants us to know and understand Him. We do not worship a god who demands that we chop off heads and murder the innocent to gain entry into heaven, but we worship a God who gave Himself that we might be reconciled to Him. I have a suggestion, God's word says if My people will humble themselves, confess their sins and turn to Me , I will hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.

A little Greek Lesson

Yesterday I went out to do a little shopping and was amazed at a T-shirt I saw. Two images were on it. One of  George HW Bush, and the other of George W. Bush.  Under the picture of HW was the word "Dumb", and,  you guessed it,  under W was "Dumber".  It never ceases to amaze me that the most ignorant among us who could never even run a small patch of dirt let alone a nation always have the worst opinions.

Ok so lets have a little Bible lesson.  Romans 13 deals with how we should react and respond to the government.  Here is what it says. Romans 13:1-Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities, For there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God. (so much for a stolen election) 2. Therefore whoever resist authority has opposed the ordinance of God, and they who have opposed will receive the condemnation upon themselves ( how about a little greek lesson , there are two terms for condemnation used in this text 1.  kataginosko- which means to judge something to be bad  the other is autokatakrios -pertaining to one who is condemned as a result of his own actions, that such a man is twisted and sinful, being condemned by what he himself has done)3. For rulers (now
don't get your nickers tied in a knot, at the time the Bible was written they were emperors etc. today they are presidents congressmen, senators etc.) are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil.  Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same. 4. For it is a minister of God to you for good.  But if you do what is evil, be afraid for it does not bear the sword ( another nicker knot tied term, today the police carry 36 caliber peacemakers, not swords) for nothing, for it is a minister of God who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.  Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection not only because of wrath but also for conscience sake ( Greek again; the word for wrath is Thumos indicates intense anger, with implications of passionate outburst.  Also it is necessary to translate this word with the idea that this is God's anger ie: God will be furious and angry against such people.  The fury and anger of God is generally interpreted in terms of divine retribution and punishment.) 6. For because of this you pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.  7. Render to all what is due them, tax to whom tax is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, and honor to whom honor.

God will not be mocked, as you sow so shall you reap.

Is this a Global War or a Regional War on Terror

If this is indeed a global war on terror, why is Israel fighting on this front alone?
I for one think there should be American troops, along with troops from every freedom
loving country there to  help Israel. Evil needs to be destroyed no matter the cost.  Why
do we not say as David said (1 Samuel 17:45 "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hand)  The problem is that we have leaders who believe in their  human powers to overcome evil. We have scoffers and scorners who mouth words about faith, but know nothing of living faith.  God is not impotent, but He will not honor empty faith.
